Mit dem Hellfire Quick5 Interview versuchen wir dem Leser möglichst interessante Infos aus den Musikern rauszukitzeln, ohne dass sie sich seitenlangen Fragen/Antworten hingeben müssen.
Wir vom Hellfire bemühen uns, (mehr oder weniger) kurz und prägnant im Rahmen von 5 Fragen zu agieren (manchmal kann eine Frage auch gedoppelt oder getrippelt sein); dem Musiker obliegt es, nach seinem Gutdünken zu antworten: kurz und knapp bis hin zu ausschweifend und umfangreich.
Heute sprechen wir mit Conny Bloom, Frontmann der schwedischen Rock Formation Electric Boys, deren neues Album „The Ghost Ward Diaires“ am 23.11.2018 erscheinen wird (das Review findet ihr HIER).
HF: Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu eurer neuen Scheibe. Das letzte Album “Satrlight United” liegt vier Jahre zurück. Inwieweit haben sich die lange Zeitspanne zwischen den Alben und anderweitige Aktivitäten der Bandmitglieder – Conny Bloom hat beispielsweise ein Soloalbum auf schwedisch veröffentlicht (wenn ich richtig informiert bin) – auf das Songwriting zu “The Ghost Ward Diaries” ausgewirkt?
CB: Ich danke dir! Es sind aufregende Zeiten.
Vier weitere Jahre Erfahrung, nehme ich an. Wir waren auf Tournee und haben Songs geschrieben. Außerdem war ich auf der Suche nach einem neuen Team, mit dem wir jetzt über PledgeMusic und Mighty Music zusammenarbeiten können. Aber es fühlt sich wie zwei Jahre an. Die Zeit vergeht wie im Fluge.
HF: Auch auf die Gefahr hin, dass ihr bereits häufiger danach gefragt wurdet: Was hat es mit dem Songtitel “Hangover in Hannover” – und warum ausgerechnet Hannover? – sowie dem mysteriösen Albumtitel “The Ghost Ward Diaries” auf sich?
CB: Ich schätze, “Hangover in Skövde” klingt nicht gerade nach einem Song 🙂 Es ist eine wahre Geschichte und sie ist in vielen Städten passiert. Der Name des Studios ist Ghost Ward und wir haben viel Zeit damit verbracht, dort abzuhängen und Texte zu schreiben.
HF: Auf “The Ghost Ward Diaries” sind gleich zwei Drummer zu hören. Wie kommt es zu dieser Arbeitsteilung?
CB: Unser ursprünglicher Schlagzeuger Niclas Sigevall lebt in LA und es wird zu teuer, ihn für nur einen Gig hier und da einfliegen zu lassen. Er absolviert hauptsächlich Tourneen und wir haben das Glück, Jolle zu haben, der wie angegossen zu uns passt. Er ist bei den Einzelgigs dabei und spielt auf drei Songs auf dem Album sowie zuvor auf den Singles.
HF: Eurer neues Album wird über Mighty Music vertrieben. Wie kam der Vertrag mit dem Label zustande? Hattet ihr mehrere Angebote und was hat euch dazu bewogen, bei Mighty Music zu unterschreiben? Was versprecht ihr euch von dem Deal?
CB: Der Kontakt kam durch unseren Manager Sven Isaksson zustande. Mighty Music genießen einen guten Ruf bei unseren Freunden im Geschäft und haben bisher einen guten Job mit Interviews etc. gemacht.
HF: Ihr seid gefühlt schon ewig im Geschäft und habt wahrscheinlich so ziemlich alles schon gesehen hast. Gibt es noch Dinge – sei es auf Tour oder im Vorfeld einer Albumveröffentlichung -, die euch nach all den Jahren sprachlos machen? Außerdem feiert ihr In diesem Jahr auch das 30-jährige Jubiläum der Bandgründung. Ist für diesen Anlass etwas Besonderes geplant – außer dem neuen Album?
CB: Es gibt nicht mehr viel Überraschendes, nein. Es ist sehr offensichtlich, wenn man sieht, dass andere Leute ganz nervös werden oder ausflippen wegen eines verspäteten Fluges oder anderen Dingen. Ich meine, entspannt euch, es gibt sowieso nichts, was ihr tun könnt. Was auch immer passiert, es passiert.
Wir haben was zum 25-jährigen Jubiläum gemacht, also nichts bis jetzt nichts für das 30. geplant.

Hellfire‘s Quick 5 interviews try to gather a lot of interesting information within the narrow frame of five questions and five answers. Sometimes a query may be divided into two or three partial questions. It’s up to the musicians to answer short, longer or excessively.
This time we talk to Conny Bloom, singer of the swedish rock band Electric Boys, whose new album “The Ghost Ward Diaires” will be released on 23.11.2018.
HF: Congratulations on your new record. The last album “Satrlight United” is four years ago. To what extent have the long time span between the albums and other activities of the band members – for example Conny Bloom has released a solo album in Swedish (if I’m properly informed) – affected the songwriting of “The Ghost Ward Diaries”?
CB: Thank you! It’s exiting times.
Four more years of experience I guess. We’ve been touring and writing. Also been looking at finding a new team to work with, which we have now via PledgeMusic and Mighty Music. But it feels like 2 years. Time flies.
HF: Even at the risk that you’ve been asked for it more often: what’s the matter with the song title “Hangover in Hannover” – and why Hannover of all places? – as well as the mysterious Album title “The Ghost Ward Diaries” on itself?
CB: I guess ”Hangover in Skövde”doesn’t sound much like a song 🙂 It’s a true story and it has happened in many cities.
The name of the studio is Ghost Ward and we spent a lot of time sitting there writing lyrics and stuff.
HF: On “The Ghost Ward Diaries” you can hear two drummers. How does this division of work come about?
CB: Our original drummer Niclas Sigevall lives in LA and it gets to expensive to bring him over for just one gig here and there. He mainly do tours and we are fortunate to have Jolle who fits like a glove. He does the one-off stuff and plays on 3 songs on the album as well as to singles before that.
Your new album will be distributed via Mighty Music. How did the contract with the label come about? Did you have several offers and what made you decide to sign with Mighty Music? What do you expect from the deal?
It was through our manager Sven Isaksson. They have a great reputation amongst our friends in the business and so far they’ve been doing a great job with interviews etc.
HF: You’ve felt like you’ve been in business forever and probably seen pretty much everything. Are there still things – be it on tour or in the run-up to an album release – that make you speechless after all these years? This year you are also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the band’s foundation. Is there anything special planned for this occasion – apart from the new album?
CB: There’s not much that surprises anymore, no. It’s very obvious when you see other people get all nervous or freak out over a delayed flight or something. I mean chill out, there’s nothing you can do anyway. Whatever happens happens.
We did a 25th Anniversary thing so nothing planned as of yet for 30.
