Die großen “4” des deutschen Thrash Metal kennt wohl jeder. Doch eine Band aus Balingen ist auf dem besten Weg einen ebenso großen Platz im deutschen Thrash Metal einzunehmen. Und jeder der schon mal auf einem der unzähligen Festivals war, dürfte TRAITOR kennen und auch lieben gelernt haben.
Ich hatte zwei Mal das Vergnügen sie über die Bühne wüten zu sehen. Am 22.09.2023 erscheint ihr erstes Live Album “Teutonic Slaughter”, welches die Live Qualitäten bestens aufzeigt. Um die Wartezeit bis zur Veröffentlichung zu überbrücken, habe ich mich mit Sänger/Schlagzeuger Andreas Mozer über die neue Langrille unterhalten.

HF: Hallo Andreas! Danke das Du dir die genommen hast, für dieses kleine Interview. Sehen wir mal von euer Jubiläumsbox ab, haut ihr jetzt euer erstes Live Album raus. Wie kam es dazu?
AM: Ja, abgesehen von der “Decade of Revival” Box und unserer Live Demo “Inclination to Aggression”, ist das unser erstes, richtiges Live Album. Wir wurden oft darauf angesprochen das die Live Aufnahmen der Jubiläumsbox, sehr gut sind, aber die Box leider nur limitiert erhältlich war. Wir wollten daher nochmal eine Live Aufnahme machen, die komplett unlimitiert ist. Vor dem Auftritt auf dem Schlichtenfest, gab es Kontakt mit der Filmcrew die alles aufgezeichnet hat. Da die sowieso vor Ort waren, bot es sich an, das einfach festzuhalten. Wer jetzt denkt “Filmcrew?”… ja es gibt auch was zu sehen. Im Booklet findet sich ein QR-Code über den man das Filmmaterial ansehen kann.
HF: Wer eure Liveauftritte kennt, weiß das ihr keine Gefangenen macht und immer Vollgas gebt. Achtet ihr bei der Auswahl der Tracks auf möglichst viel Abwechslung eurer Schaffensphase? Oder geht es da “nur” um reines “voll auf die Fresse”?
AM: Tatsächlich achten wir immer darauf, das von jedem Album etwas dabei ist. Seit wir neue Werkzeuge wie Spotify und Instagram haben, nutzen wir auch diese um herauszufinden was unsere Fans gerne hören. Das Programm 2022 und 2023 haben wir komplett mit diesen Informationen gestaltet.
HF: Da ich schon mal in die Scheibe reinhören durfte, kann ich/ sagen das die Songauswahl, das feinste aus eurer Karriere bietet. Gibt es einen Song/Songs den/die ihr besonders gerne Live zum Besten gebt?
AM: Vielen Dank, das höre ich natürlich gerne. Als Band denke ich gibt es diverse Songs die wir sehr gerne spielen. Ich persönlich spiele den Song “Venomizer” am liebsten.
HF: Ihr seid mittlerweile 14 Jahre in der Metal-Welt unterwegs. Wie waren eure Anfänge und wann kam der Zug auf das Gleis auf dem ihr jetzt “thrasht”?
AM: Aus heutiger Sicht (und teilweise auch aus damaliger) war die Anfangszeit oft furchtbar. Sehr mühsam und von einigen Rückschlägen, unterirdischen Auftritten und Mitgliederwechseln zersetzt. Ich denke man kann sagen ab 2008/2009, also mit dem Wechsel des Namens zu TRAITOR, hat sich das Blatt gewendet. Mit dem Zugang von Matthias hat sich dann auch alles gefestigt und in die richtige Richtung begeben.

HF: Schauen wir mal voraus. Was sind eure Pläne für die nächste Zeit? Arbeitet ihr eventuell sogar schon an neuen Songs?
AM: Natürlich planen wir ein neues Album und hoffentlich viele Auftritte. Vielleicht auch mal außerhalb des deutschsprachigen Raumes. Vielen Dank für das Interview und vor allem vielen Dank an alle, die es mit uns gut meinen und uns unterstützen. Ohne Euch wäre diese unfassbare Reise auf keinen Fall möglich.
Everyone probably knows the big “4” of German thrash metal. But a band from Balingen is on their way to take an equally big place in German thrash metal. And everyone who has been to one of the countless Festivals in Germany should have noticed and also like TRAITOR. I had the pleasure to see them rage across the stage twice. On 09/22/2023 their first live album “Teutonic Slaughter” will be released. Where everyone can check out their Live qualities. To keep the waiting Time short until release I talked with Singer/Drummer Andreas Mozer about the new Album.
HF: Hello Andreas! Thank you for taking the time for this little interview. Except your 10th anniversary Boxset, you are releasing your first live album. How did it come to this?
AM: Yes, apart from the “Decade of Revival” box and our live demo “Inclination to Aggression”, this is our first real live album. We were often asked about the fact that the live recordings of the Anniversary Box are very good, but unfortunately the Box was only available as a limited edition. So we wanted to make another live recording which is completely unlimited.
Before the performance at the Schlichtenfest, there was contact with the Film crew that filmed everything. Because they were there so we thought it was a good idea to record it. Who now thinks “Film crew?”… yes there is also something to look at. In the booklet you can find a QR code to watch the footage.
HF: Who knows your live performances, knows that you take no prisoners and always give full throttle. Do you pay attention to the selection of the tracks on as much variety of your creative phase as possible? Or is it “only” about “straight in your Face”?
AM: In fact, we always make sure that there is something from every album. Since we have new tools like Spotify land Instagram, we also use them to check out what our fans like to listen to. We designed the 2022 and 2023 Toursetlist completely with this information.
HF: Since I was already allowed to listen to the Album, I can say that the song selection is the finest from your entire career. Is there a song/songs that you and your Bandmembers especially like to perform live?
AM: Thank you very much, of course I like to hear that. As a band I think there are several songs we like to play Live. I personally like to play the song “Venomizer” the most.
HF: You have been on the road in the metal world for 14 years now. How were your beginnings and when did the train come on the track on which you are “trashing” now?
AM: From today’s point of view (and partly also from that time), the early days were often terrible. Very laborious and disintegrated by some setbacks, underground performances and changes of members. I think I can say, from 2008/2009, with the change of the name to TRAITOR, the tide has turned. With the joining of Matthias everything has consolidated and moved in the right direction.
HF: Take a look ahead. What are your plans for the near future? Are you already working on new songs?
AM: Of course we are planning a new album and hopefully many gigs. Maybe also outside German-speaking countries. Thank you very much for the interview and especially THANK YOU to all fans, friends and supporters which are well disposed to us and support us.
