Mit dem Hellfire Quick5 Interview versuchen wir für unsere Leser möglichst interessante Infos aus den Musikern rauszukitzeln, ohne dass sie sich seitenlangen Fragen/Antworten hingeben müssen. Wir vom Hellfire bemühen uns dabei, (mehr oder weniger) kurz und prägnant im Rahmen von 5 Fragen zu agieren (manchmal kann eine Frage auch gedoppelt oder getrippelt sein); den Musikern obliegt es, nach ihrem Gutdünken zu antworten: kurz und knapp bis hin zu ausschweifend und umfangreich.
Diesmal sprachen wir mit SVETLANAS, die am 13. März 2020 ihr neues Album “Disco Sucks” veröffentlichen werden.
HF: Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu eurem neuen Album. Da euer Stil ja ziemlich einzigartig ist, für wen wärt ihr die perfekte Empfehlung?
Olga: Danke, ich bin schon total aufgeregt wegen dem Album. “Disco Sucks” ist für jeden, außer für die Cops.
HF: Da ihr ja alle nicht in der gleichen Gegend wohnt, wird es wahrscheinlich keine altmodischen Bandproben bei SVETLANAS geben, könnte ich mir vorstellen. Wie bereitet ihr euch auf Shows vor und wie läuft das Songwriting ab?
Diste: Kommt immer darauf an, in welcher Ecke der Welt wir uns gerad befinden. Wenn wir in Europa und nicht auf Tour sind, dann ist der Pinbowl Skatepark unser Hauptquartier. Und wenn wir in den Staaten sind, dann ist unsere Base in der Wüste von Joshua Tree, in der Nähe von Nick.
Olga: Seit kurzem sind wir ein Kollektiv. Der Pinbowl Skatepark in Mailand, Italien, ist der Ort, an dem sich alles abspielt und wo wir auch unser neues Album aufgenommen, produziert und abgemischt haben. Im Grunde verbringen wir hier unsere ganze Zeit mit unserem Tagesablauf: Spielen, skaten, kreativ sein.
Steve: Der Schreibprozess ändert sich jedes Mal, bei jedem Album und jedem Song. Wir arbeiten zusammen und wir lieben es so.
HF: Wo wir gerad über Songs sprechen: “Disco Sucks” ist das fünfte SVETLANAS Album, wenn ich mich nicht verzählt habe. Das heisst, ihr habt eine große Anzahl an Songs, die für eine Live Performance in Frage kommen. Welchen eurer Songs spielt ihr am liebsten live und warum?
Steve: Ich liebe “Karma Soldier” und zu sehen, wie die Leute beim Refrain springen.
Diste: Für mich ist “Don’t Do” DER Song. Unbändige Strophen und ein mid-tempo Refrain, der einfach Spaß macht, ihn zu spielen!
Olga: Oh mein Gott, ja, ich erinnere mich daran. Ganz am Anfang waren wir vier Mädels, aber dieses Line-up hat nur ein paar Monate gehalten. Es hat Spaß gemacht.
Diste: Wir haben echt schon so einige große Festivals gespielt, wie die Vans Warped Tour (USA), SXSW (USA), Punk Rock Bowling (USA), Extreme Fest (Frankreich), Rebellion Festival (UK), Dead Of Winter Festival (Australien).
Steve: Die Residency im Whisky A Go Go und die Show im The Viper Room waren einfach Wahnsinn.
HF: Wie werdet ihr den Release des Albums feiern? Und wie sehen eure Pläne für 2020 aus? Werdet ihr ein paar neue Ecke erkunden?
Olga: Wir werden mit einer Skate Tour rund um die Welt feiern.
Diste: Im Moment arbeiten wir daran, bald wieder in Australien zu touren und wir werden das erste Mal nach Südamerika kommen.
Steve: Olga will unbedingt nach Jamaica, aber nur zum Party machen.

Hellfire Quick 5 interviews try to gather a lot of interesting information within the narrow frame of five questions and five answers. Sometimes a query may be divided into two or three partial questions. It’s up to the musicians to answer short, longer or excessively.
Today we talk to Svetlanas, who will release their new album „Disco Sucks“ on March 13, 2020.
HF: Congratulations on your new album. Since your style is quite unique, for whom would you be the perfect recommendation?
Olga: Thanks, I am pretty excited for this one. “Disco Sucks” is for everyone: except for the cops.
HF: Since you all don’t live in the same area, I suppose there’s nothing like old fashioned band practice for Svetlanas. How do you prepare for shows and how is the songwriting happening?
Diste: It depends in which side of the country we are. When we are in Europe, and we are not on the road, our headquarter is Pinbowl Skatepark. When we are in the States we are based in the desert of Joshua Tree close to Nick.
Olga: Recently, we became a collective. Pinbowl Skatepark in Milan, Italy is where we do everything and also where we recorded, produced and mixed our new album. We basically spend all our time here with our daily routine: Play, Skate, Create.
Steve: The songwriting process change every time for every album and for every song. We work together and we love this way.
HF: Talking about songs: „Disco Sucks“ is the fifth Svetlanas album if my counting is correct. Meaning there are a lot songs to choose from for playing live. Which of your songs is your favourite to perform on stage and why?
Olga: No doubt: “Jump” and “Never Sleep Again” are my new two favourites. “Jump” is the kick-off. It means the metamorphosis is coming. “Never Sleep Again” is so intense to perform and when I do, I am totally lost in the music.
Steve: I really love “Karma Soldier” and seeing the people jumping on the refrain.
Diste: For me “Don’t Do It” is the one. Wild verse and a mid-tempo refrain that it’s a real pleasure to play!
HF: Looking at the list of shows you’ve played, it seems you’ve been around the world already. Do you still remember the first show you played with Svetlanas? And the biggest one? What did it feel like?
Olga: Oh my God hahaha yes i do. We were four girls at the beginning but this line up lasted for a couple of months only. It was fun.
Diste: We really played lots of great festivals, like the Vans Warped Tour (USA), SXSW (USA), Punk Rock Bowling (USA), Extreme Fest (France), Rebellion Festival (UK), Dead Of Winter Festival (Australia).
Steve: The Residency at The Whisky a Go Go and the show at The Viper Room were insane.
HF: How will you celebrate the release of your new album? And what are your plans for 2020? Any new places to explore?
Olga: We will celebrate with a skate tour around the world.
Diste: We are working on touring Australia again soon and also for the very first time we will tour South America.
Steve: Olga wanna go to Jamaica, but just to party.
