Die Belgier SCHIZOPHRENIA überraschten mich am 31. Januar 2020 mit ihrer damaligen Erstlings-EP namens “Voices” ( hier meine Rezension dazu ), die mir prompt ins Ohr schoss und daraus resultierend die MC/Kassette in meiner Sammlung landete. Über ein Jahr ist nun vergangen und vor kurzem veröffentlichten sie ihr Debütalbum “Recollections Of The Insane“, was nun auf meinem Rezensionsteller liegt und darauf wartet, von mir gehört zu werden. Dann mal los…
“Divine Immolation” geht nach einem kurzen Vorspiel gleich zum rasanten und aggressiven Hauptteil über, teilt schnellstmöglich aus und Dunkelheit tritt hervor, wenn man es etwas “ruhiger” angeht. Jawoll, genau nach meinem Geschmack und auf die Zwölf! “Cranial Disintegration“, tamm tamm tamm und ab geht`s mit schönen Melodiebögen, kurzzeitigen Blastbeats, einer durchgehend energiegeladenen Struktur und dunklen Momenten, “Sea of Sorrow” tanzt auf dem gleichen Geschwindigkeitsparkett, setzt aber auch ruhigere und 6-Saiter melodiöse Akzente, die durch schwere Riffs ergänzt werden und endend einen Hauch episch orientales freilassen.
“Monolith“, anfänglich etwas “unsortiert”, feuert im Nachgang wieder aus allen Instrumentenrohren und dieses ist gepaart mit Richtung -und Tempowechseln, “Onwards to Fire” erinnert mich in anderer Form eröffnend an “South Of Heaven“, stoppt ab, geht geradlinig und mit Abbrüchen seinen Weg und schlussendlich klingt man geräuschvoll düster aus und “Souls Of Retribution” lädt rhythmisch zum Moshpit ein und die Hopsenden bekommen jede Menge unterschiedlichstes geboten.
Du möchtest weiterhopsen? Bekommst nicht genug? Dann ist “Inside The Walls Of Madness” genau das Richtige, aber richte dich auf Ausdauer deinerseits ein, denn der Song fegt und stampft auf und das nicht gerade zaghaft. “Fall Of The Damned” entlässt zu Beginn kurzzeitig chorale Klänge, denen ich nachts nicht im Kirchengewölbe bei Mondschein lauschend begegnen möchte (…zum Glück schlafe ich zu der Zeit..). Im weiteren Verlauf geht wieder die Post ab, die sich aber auch mal Urlaub gönnt und den anderen den Vortritt lässt. Der Letzte im Bunde, das Schlusslicht “Stratified Realities” ist austeilend klangvoll kreativ und Ricky Mandozzi gibt noch einmal alles Vokalistische.
Fazit: Ein wahrlich meisterhaft klangtechnisches Debütalbum der Belgier, gefüllt mit einem Death/Thrash-Metal Menü!

Belgians SCHIZOPHRENIA surprised me on January 31, 2020 with their then debut EP called “Voices” ( here’s my review of it in german Language ), which promptly caught my ear and as a result the MC/cassette ended up in my collection. Over a year has passed now and recently they released their debut album “Recollections Of The Insane“, which is now on my review rack waiting to be heard by me. Here goes…
“Divine Immolation“, after a short prelude, goes straight to the fast-paced and aggressive main part, dishes out as fast as possible and darkness comes out when you take it a bit “calmer”. Yes, exactly to my taste and on the twelve! “Cranial Disintegration“, “tamm tamm tamm” and off it goes with beautiful melodic arcs, brief blast beats, a consistently energetic structure and dark Moments, “Sea of Sorrow” dances on the same speed parquet, but also sets quieter and 6-string melodic accents, which are complemented by heavy riffs and end a touch of epic oriental release.
“Monolith“, initially a bit “unsorted”, fires in the wake again from all instrument tubes and this is paired with direction – and tempo changes, “Onwards to Fire” reminds me in a different form opening of “South Of Heaven“, stops, goes straight and with breaks his way and finally you sound noisy gloomy and “Souls Of Retribution” invites rhythmically to the mosh pit and the hopsenden (german Word) get a lot of different offered.
You want to keep on hopping? Can’t get enough? Then “Inside The Walls Of Madness” is just the thing, but prepare for endurance on your part, because the song sweeps and stomps on and not exactly timidly. “Fall Of The Damned” briefly releases choral sounds at the beginning that I wouldn’t want to encounter listening to at night in the church vault by moonlight (…luckily I’m asleep at the time..). In the further course, the post goes off again, which, however, also treats itself to a vacation and lets the others take the lead. The last one in the bunch, the closing track “Stratified Realities” is distributingly sonorous creative and Ricky Mandozzi gives once again everything vocalistic.
Conclusion: A truly masterful sonic debut Album of the Belgians, filled with a Death/Thrash Metal Menu!
