Mit dem Hellfire Quick5 Interview versuchen wir für unsere Leser möglichst interessante Infos aus den Musikern rauszukitzeln, ohne dass sie sich seitenlangen Fragen/Antworten hingeben müssen. Wir vom Hellfire bemühen uns dabei, (mehr oder weniger) kurz und prägnant im Rahmen von 5 Fragen zu agieren (manchmal kann eine Frage auch gedoppelt oder getrippelt sein); den Musikern obliegt es, nach ihrem Gutdünken zu antworten: kurz und knapp bis hin zu ausschweifend und umfangreich.
Diesmal sprachen wir mit Sam, Gitarrist der britischen Band Climate Of Fear, die am 01. März 2019 ihr neues Album „The Onset Of Eternal Darkness“ veröffentlichen.
HF: Climate Of Fear wurde 2017 gegründet, als Band seid ihr also noch ziemlich neu. 2018 habt ihr eure Debüt-EP veröffentlicht und in ein paar Wochen kommt euer Debüt-Album. Das macht den Eindruck, als wärt ihr alle keine Neulinge im Musikgeschäft. Erzähl uns doch bitte etwas über den musikalischen Hintergrund der Bandmitglieder.
Sam: Wir haben alle in so einigen verschiedenen Bands gespielt und auch mit einer gewissen musikalischen Bandbreite. So haben wir uns auch alle kennengelernt, was dann schließlich zur Bandgründung geführt hat.
HF: Nachdem ich mir “The Onset Of Eternal Darkness” angehört habe, war mein erster Gedanke: okay, das ist schon eine eher ungewöhnliche Genre-Mischung. Es gibt Melodic Death Metal, Hardcore und sogar ein paar Beatdown Einflüsse. War das eine bewusste Entscheidung, diese Elemente zu kombinieren oder ergab sich diese Mischung ganz von selbst beim Schreiben der Songs?
Sam: Das ist einfach der natürliche Sound, der sich aus all unseren Einflüssen und Lieblingsbands ergibt, denke ich. Wir haben es nicht darauf angelegt, eine bestimmte Nische zu füllen oder gewisse Elemente zu kombinieren, wir wollen einfach Metal spielen und gucken, was dabei herauskommt.
HF: Das Jahr 2018 habt ihr mit dem Release eurer ersten EP begonnen und habt dann eine Reihe von Shows quer durch Europa gespielt. Das ist ja für eine so junge Band eher ungewöhnlich. Wie fühlt es sich an, seine Musik einem neuen Publikum zu präsentieren – oder hattet ihr euch vorher schon eine solide Fan-Gemeinde quer durch Europa aufgebaut?
Sam: 2018 war einfach cool! Für uns macht es keinen Unterschied, ob wir in Großbritannien oder auf dem europäischen Festland spielen, solange die Leute einfach eine gute Zeit haben. Sobald wir angefangen haben, Musik zu veröffentlichen, haben die Leute uns gefragt, ob wir nicht in allen möglichen Ländern spielen könnten. Also haben wir uns einfach in den Van gesetzt und es gemacht.
HF: Wenn du eure EP “Holy Terror” mit eurem neuen Album vergleichst, was würdest du als die dauerhaften Trademarks eures Sounds beschreiben und was ist diesmal neu bei Climate Of Fear?
Sam: Zwischen dem Schreiben der EP und des Albums haben wir sehr viele Shows gespielt und hatten auch viel mehr Zeit, einfach mal zu jammen. Ich denke, infolgedessen haben wir unseren Sound etwas erweitert. Es klingt immer noch heavy und aggressiv, aber vielleicht haben wir ein paar Extras mit reingebracht oder haben ein paar Dinge ausgebaut, mit denen wir auf der EP begonnen haben.
HF: Wie werdet ihr den Release eures Albums feiern und was steht noch so auf eurer Agenda für 2019?
Sam: Unser Plan für 2019 ist einfach: so viele Shows an so vielen Orten wie nur irgendwie möglich spielen.

Hellfire Quick 5 interviews try to gather a lot of interesting information within the narrow frame of five questions and five answers. Sometimes a query may be divided into two or three partial questions. It’s up to the musicians to answer short, longer or excessively.
Today we talk to Sam, guitarist of Climate Of Fear from the UK who will release their new album „The Onset Of Eternal Darkness“ on March 1st 2019.
HF: Climate Of Fear was founded in 2017, so you are quite new as a band. In 2018 you released your debut EP and in a few weeks your debut album will follow. Seems to me like you are no newbies to the music business. Please tell us about the musical background of the band members.
Sam: We’ve all played in quite a few different bands before across a few different styles, which is also how we’ve come to know each other and led to the formation of the band!
HF: After listening to „The Onset Of Eternal Darkness“ my first thougt was: okay, that’s quite an unusual mixture of genres. There’s Melodic Death Metal, Hardcore and even some Beatdown influences can be found in your music. Was it a concious decision to combine such elements or was this a blend that came quite naturally during songwriting?
Sam: It’s just the natural sound that comes from all our influences and favourite bands I guess. We didn’t set out to play a specific genre niche or combine certain sounds but just to play metal and see how it comes out!
HF: After kicking off 2018 with the release of your first EP, you played a number of shows across Europe. Quite unusual for such a young band, isn’t it? How does it feel to present your music to an audience that isn’t familiar with it – or had you already gained a solid fan base across Europe?
Sam: 2018 was really cool! For us there’s no difference in playing in the UK or across Europe as long as people are having a good time. As soon as we started to release music we had people asking us to play in different countries so we just decided to get in the van and get on with it!
HF: When you compare your debut EP „Holy Terror“ to your new album, what would you define as the lasting trademarks of your sounds and which things are new to Climate OF Fear this time?
Sam: Between writing the EP and the album we played a lot of shows and we got to jam a lot more, so I think that lead to us expanding the sound to a degree. It’s still heavy, it’s still aggressive but maybe we’ve brought in some extra elements or expanded on some things we started on the EP.
HF: How are you going to celebrate the release of your first album and what else is on your agenda for 2019?
Sam: Our agenda for 2019 is simple: play as many shows in as many places as possible.
