-English version below- Mit dem Hellfire Quick5 Interview versuchen wir für unsere Leser möglichst interessante Infos aus den Musikern rauszukitzeln, ohne dass sie sich seitenlangen Fragen/Antworten hingeben müssen. Wir vom Hellfire bemühen uns dabei, (mehr oder weniger) kurz und prägnant im Rahmen von 5 Fragen zu agieren (manchmal kann eine Frage auch gedoppelt oder getrippelt sein); den Musikern obliegt es, nach ihrem Gutdünken zu antworten: kurz und knapp bis hin zu ausschweifend und umfangreich.
Diesmal sprachen wir mit Christophe, Bassist von Die My Demon aus Belgien, die am 05. Juli 2019 ihr neues Album “Fear The One…That Kills The Soul” veröffentlichen.
HF: Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu eurem neuen Album. Bei dem Albumtitel, den ihr gewählt habt, habe ich mich gefragt, ob die Seele von DMD zwischendurch tot war, da 15 Jahre zwischen euren Alben liegen.
Christophe: Ehrlich gesagt hat es nur 3 Jahre gedauert, unser neues Album “Fear the one…that kills the Soul” fertigzustellen. In den anderen 12 Jahren waren wir in anderen Bands wie Jerusalem The Black und Crossed The Line aktiv, waren natürlich mit unserer Comeback EP als DMD beschäftigt, aber viel Zeit und “Seele” floss auch in Hochzeiten, Familiengründungen, Kinder und den Beruf.
HF: Während der Lücken in der aktiven Zeit von DMD ist viel in eurem musikalischen und privaten Leben passiert. Als ihr dann beschlossen habt, wieder zusammenzukommen und neue Musik zu machen, war es da als wärt ihr niemals getrennt gewesen oder musstet ihr euch erst wieder kennenlernen?
Christophe: 2014 sind wir eigentlich sehr unerwartet wieder zusammengekommen, unser ehemaliger Roadie hat eine Local Show organisiert und uns gefragt, ob wir Bock auf einen Reunion Gig hätten. Wir haben zugesagt, haben angefangen zu proben und fast schon automatisch haben wir dann auch neue Songs geschrieben. Ich denke, es war einfach an der Zeit, DMD wieder zu beleben. Da wir alle in Kontakt geblieben sind, während DMD auf Eis lag, lief alles sofort wieder reibungslos in der Band.
HF: Mit der Lebens- und Altersweisheit 😉 betrachtet: Hat es sich irgendwie anders angefühlt, als ihr nach eurer Reunion 2014 Shows gespielt habt, im Vergleich zu den Shows die ihr in der Anfangszeit der Band gespielt habt? Gibt es irgendwas, was du von damals vermisst?
Christophe: Es hat sich überhaupt nicht anders angefühlt. Wenn du eine Show spielst, dann liegt dein Fokus einzig und allein darauf, sie so gut wie möglich zu spielen, egal ob du 22 oder 40 bist. Der einzige große Unterschied ist der Faktor Zeit. Damals haben wir zweimal die Woche geprobt und fast jedes Wochenende mindestens einen Auftritt gehabt. Heutzutage versuchen wir, einmal die Woche zu proben und müssen uns gut organisieren, um Shows spielen zu können.
HF: Wenn ich mir die Trackliste eures Albums so anschaue, dann sieht es so aus, als hättet ihr eine Kombination von zwei (oder sogar drei) Songs als eine Art Titeltrack. Gibt es da eine Verbindung zwischen den Songs und warum sind “Kill The Soul” und “Crawling Madness” eine Art kombinierter Track?
Christophe: Der Song “Fear the one” handelt von dem Thema, für welches das Album “Fear the one…that kills the Soul” steht. “Kill the Soul” war schon immer als Intro zu “Crawling Madness” gedacht, die beiden Songs sind zur gleichen Zeit entstanden und haben auch eine gewisse Verbindung zueinander. Als wir die Trackliste zusammengestellt haben, war unser Gedanke auch, dass “Kill The Soul” ein perfektes Interlude fürs Album sein würde.
HF: Mit der 2015 erschienenen EP und nun dem Album scheint es so, als wäre DMD dauerhaft zurückgekehrt. Wie sehen eure Pläne für die Zukunft aus?
Christophe: Mit der neuen Scheibe in petto werden wir so viele Shows wie möglich spielen, um sie zu promoten. Für diesen Sommer stehen zwei offizielle Release Parties an, die erste am 06. Juli beim großartigen Ieper Hardcore Fest (mit Madball, Turnstile…) und die zweite ist dann mehr eine Local Show am 14. August in Aalst (B) mit Sworn Enemy. Im September, Oktober und November stehen dann noch weitere Shows an, folgt uns also auf Facebook und Instagram, um alle Updates etc. mitzukriegen… wir neigen dazu, nicht mehr als 6 Monate im Voraus zu planen 🙂

Today we talk to Christophe from Die My Demon from Belgium who will release their new album „Fear The One…That Kills The Soul“ July 5, 2019.
HF: Congratulations on your new album. The title you chose for it made me wonder whether the soul of DMD was ever dead since it took you 15 years between albums.
Christophe: To be honest, it took us only 3 years to make our new full album “Fear the one… that kills the soul”. The other 12 years we were busy making music with other bands like Jerusalem The Black and Crossed The Line and of course our comeback EP with DMD, but also marriages, families, kids and jobs need lots of time and “soul”.
HF: During the huge gaps between the active times of DMD, a lot happened in your personal und musical lives. So when you decided to get back together and create new music, was it like you have never been apart or did you have to get to know each other again?
Christophe: In 2014 we came back quite unexpectedly; our former roadie organized a local show and asked us if we were interested in doing a reunion show. We went for it, started rehearsing and almost automatically we were writing new songs. I guess it was time again to revive Die My Demon! As we all kept in touch between the inactive DMD years things went smoothly immediately.
HF: With the wisdom of life and older age 😉 did it feel any different when you played shows after your reunion in 2014 compared to the shows you played when you started out as a band? Is there anything you miss from those early days?
Christophe: It didn’t feel any different, when playing a show the only focus is playing it as good as possible, whether you’re 22 or 40. The only big difference is time, back in the day we had 2 rehearsals a week and almost every weekend at least one show. Today we try to rehearse one time a week and have to really plan our agendas to be able to play shows.
HF: Looking at the tracklist of the album, it seems like you have have a combination of two (or even three) songs as a kind of title track. Is there any connection between those songs and why are „Kill The Soul“ and „Crawling Madness“ a kind of combined track?
Christophe: “Fear the one” is handling about the subject “Fear the one… that kills the soul” stands for. “Kill the soul” was always mend to be the intro for “Crawling Madness”, they were both made at the same time and the 2 songs really connect with each other. When we were putting the tracklist together, we felt ”Kill the soul” would also be a perfect interlude for the album.
HF: With an EP in 2015 and now an album to be released, it seems DMD is finally here to stay. What are your plans for the future?
Christophe: With a new record under our belt, we’re going to play as many shows as possible to promote this album! This summer we have 2 official release parties coming up, the first one is the 6th of July on the almighty Ieper Hardcore Fest (with Madball, Turnstile,..) and the second is a more local release show in Aalst (B) with Sworn Enemy on the 14th of August. More shows are booked for September, October and November so do follow us on the facebooks or the instagrams to get the latest updates and everything.. We tend to not look any further than 6 months ahead 🙂
