Mit dem Hellfire Quick5 Interview versuchen wir für unsere Leser möglichst interessante Infos aus den Musikern rauszukitzeln, ohne dass sie sich seitenlangen Fragen/Antworten hingeben müssen. Wir vom Hellfire bemühen uns dabei, (mehr oder weniger) kurz und prägnant im Rahmen von 5 Fragen zu agieren (manchmal kann eine Frage auch gedoppelt oder getrippelt sein); den Musikern obliegt es, nach ihrem Gutdünken zu antworten: kurz und knapp bis hin zu ausschweifend und umfangreich.
Diesmal sprachen wir mit Felipe, Sänger von Brothers Till We Die aus Spanien, die am 05. Juli 2019 ihr neues Album “Touch These Wounds // I Came Back From Death” veröffentlichen werden.
HF: Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu eurem neuen Album. Bei dem Titel, den ihr gewählt habt, habe ich mich gefragt, welche Kämpfe ihr als Band in den letzten sieben Jahren zu bestehen hattet. Gab es jemals so etwas wie eine Nahtod-Erfahrung für Brothers Till We Die, im Sinne von einem kritischen Punkt,an dem ihr euch nicht sicher wart, ob ihr als Band weitermachen wollt oder könnt?
Felipe: Danke! Wir sind wirklich begeistert von dieser neuen Ära für BTWD, dieses neue Album enthält viele persönliche Erfahrungen, es ist ein Spiegelbild dessen, wie wir als Band gewachsen sind. Die letzten zwei Jahre waren wirklich entscheidend für die Band, denn wenn man erwachsen ist, muss man Entscheidungen treffen, die immer schwieriger zu treffen sind. Jede Wahl hat ihre eigene Konsequenz, aber es gibt auch viele Dinge, die außerhalb deiner Kontrolle liegen. In unserem Privatleben haben wir in diesen Jahren Verluste in vielerlei Hinsicht erlebt, und wir mussten die Band über viele Dinge im Leben stellen. Deshalb kehren wir vom Tod zurück, um unsere Narben allen zu zeigen, die sie sehen wollen (oder besser: sie hören, hehe). Was dich nicht umbringt, macht dich stärker; wenn wir nicht hart arbeiten, gibt es keinen Grund, es überhaupt zu versuchen.
HF: Korrigier mich bitte, wenn ich falsch liege, aber obwohl ihr ein paar spanische Songtitel habt, gibt es bisher keinen Song mit spanischem Text. Das hat mich etwas überrascht, da BTWD aus Spanien kommt und Spanisch ja eine Weltsprache ist. Habt ihr noch nie darüber nachgedacht, einen Song in eurer Muttersprache zu machen?
Felipe: Haha, nun, wir haben oft darüber nachgedacht. Ich denke, Spanisch ist eine erstaunliche Sprache und es ist wirklich eine Weltsprache, aber ich mag es nicht wirklich, wie es beim Growling klingt. Es gibt ein berühmtes Video in Spanien von einer TV-Show, in der ein Spinner anfing, Growls im spanischen Fernsehen zu singen. Ich habe das als Kind gesehen und denke, dass ich danach ein psychologisches Trauma hatte, hahaha (Such einfach mal Diario de Patricia – Gangrena auf YT). Ich respektiere auf jeden Fall die spanischsprachigen Bands, die sich entschieden haben, auf Spanisch zu singen, ich habe einige Features in anderen Bands auf Spanisch gemacht, aber ich stehe nicht wirklich darauf.
HF: Mit “Touch These Wounds // I Came Back From Death” als viertem Album habt ihr nun eine Vielzahl an Tracks in eurer Diskographie. Gibt es einen Song, dem du ein goldenes Ticket für eure Setliste ausstellen würdest? Ein Song, den du niemals müde wirst zu spielen? Warum?
Felipe: Das goldene Ticket würde wahrscheinlich an “Agony Loves Me” gehen. Die Leute lieben es einfach, wenn Edu (unser Gitarrist) mit den Screams anfängt und der Song ist normalerweise der letzte auf der Setliste, also bringt er viele schöne Erinnerungen mit sich, denn die Leute sind schon voll in der Show und geben alles. Das ist wahrscheinlich einer der besten BTWD Song, tanzbare Riffs + heavy Ende = BTWD zum genießen
HF: Ihr seid ja schon mehr als einmal quer durch Europa getourt. Gibt es da einen auffälligen Unterschied zwischen den lokalen Szenen oder sowas wie spezielle Dinge im Verhalten des Publikums z.B.?
Felipe: Nun, ich denke, das Schönste am Touren ist, Menschen zu sehen, die auf die gleichen Dinge wie du stehen, aber wie sie es aufgrund ihrer eigenen Kultur anders leben. Hier in Spanien sind die meisten Leute, die zu den lokalen Shows gehen, wirklich jung (15-20 Jahre alt), in Deutschland haben wir Leute von +40 Jahren gesehen, die das Set genießen. Und die Leute aus Großbritannien und Deutschland tanzen wirklich sehr hart, jedes Mal, wenn wir dort sind, gibt es gebrochene Knochen, haha. In Europa geben die Leute viel Geld für Merchandise von Bands bei den Auftritten aus, sie unterstützen einen, auch wenn es das erste Mal ist, dass sie einen live sehen. Ich finde das toll, es gibt einem ein gutes Gefühl.
HF: Ihr habt ein paar bekannte Namen als Gäste auf dem Album dabei, wie sind diese Kooperationen entstanden? Und wie sehen eure Pläne in Sachen Release Shows, Tour etc. aus?
Felipe: Nun, wir sind in der Vergangenheit mit Malev auf Tour gegangen, wir haben mehrmals zusammen gespielt, es sind großartige Leute und tolle Künstler, also haben wir Alex zu Beginn der Aufnahme des Albums gefragt, und wir haben es auch realisiert! Mit Desolated haben wir auch dreimal in Spanien gespielt (sogar bei einer Poolparty im Haus eines Freundes (siehe YT Desolated – Private Pool Party, du wirst sehen, wie unsere jüngeren Versionen tanzen, haha, so niedlich). Nachdem wir beim OneLifeOneCrew Fest mit Climate of Fear (der neuen Band von Paul) gespielt und dort die Bühne geteilt hatten, sprachen wir über die Idee, seinen Gesang auf dem Album zu haben. Er hat sich richtig reingehangen und das Ergebnis werdet ihr sehr bald sehen, er hat eine tolle Arbeit geleistet! Wir werden am Tag der Veröffentlichung des neuen Albums das Resurrection Fest spielen und am selben Tag wie Slipknot auf der Hauptbühne stehen, dies wird wahrscheinlich einer der besten Tage unseres Lebens sein! Und wir planen, im Oktober mit Hilfe von Marco von MadTourBooking durch Europa zu touren.

Today we talk to Filipe, vocalist of Brothers Till We Die from Spain who will release their new album “Touch These Wounds // I Came Back From Death” July 5, 2019
HF: Congratulations on your new album. The title you chose made me wonder what kind of battles you had to fight as a band in the last seven years. Was there ever something like a near death experience for Brothers Till We Die meaning a critical point when you were’nt sure whether to continue as a band?
Felipe: Thanks! We are really excited about this new era for BTWD, this new album has a lot of personal experiences inside, it is a reflection of how we have grown as a band. The last two years have been really critical for the band, as when you grow up, you have to make choices that are getting harder to make everytime. Every choice has its own consequence, but there are also a lot of things that are out of your own control. In our personal lifes we’ve experienced loss in all kind of ways these years, and we had to choose the band over a lot of things in life. That is why we’re coming back from death to show our scars to everyone who wants to see them (or better hear them hehe). What doesn‘t kill you, makes you stronger, if we do not go hard, there is no point in trying at all.
HF: Correct me if I’m wrong but even though you have some Spanish song titles, there’s not a song with Spanish lyrics yet. Kind of surprised me since BTWD originates from Spain and Spanish is a world language. Didn’t you ever think about doing a song in your mother tongue?
Felipe: Haha, well, we’ve thought about it a lot of times. I think Spanish is an amazing language and it is for real a world language, but I do not really like how it sounds in growlings. There is a famous video in Spain of a TV show where a weirdo started to sing growls on the Spanish TV. I saw that when I was a child and I think that I got a psychological trauma after that, hahaha (search Diario de Patricia – Gangrena on YT). I definitely respect a lot the Spanish-speaking bands that chose to sing in Spanish, I’ve done several features in other bands in Spanish, but I’m not really into it.
HF: With “Touch These Wounds // I Came Back From Death” being your fourth album, you have quite a number of tracks in your musical history. Is there a song you would give a golden ticket to for your setlist? A song you are never getting tired playing live? Why?
Felipe: The golden ticket will probably go to „Agony Loves Me“. People really like when Edu (our guitarist) starts to scream, and that song is usually the last one of the set, so it brings a lot of good memories with it, cause people are already into the show and give it all. It is probably one of the best BTWD songs, danceable riffs+heavy ending = tasty BTWD.
HF: You’ve toured around Europe more than once. Is there a significant difference between local scenes or did you notice any particular characteristics in the behaviour of the audience or something like that?
Felipe: Well, I think that the most beautiful thing about touring is to see people that are into the same things as you, but how they, due to their own culture, live it in a different way. Here in Spain, most of the people that go to the local shows are really young (15-20 years old), in Germany we’ve seen people of +40 enjoying the set. And people of UK and Germany dance really really hard, everytime we go there, there are broken bones haha. In Europe, people spend a lot of money for merch of bands at the gigs, they support you even if it is the first time they see you live and I think this is beautiful, it makes you feel so good.
HF: You have some well-known names as guests on your new album. How did this cooperations come to pass? What are your plans when it comes to release shows, tours etc?
Felipe: Well we’ve toured with Malev in the past, we’ve played together several times, they are amazing people and amazing artists, so when we started to record the album we asked Alex about it, and we made it happen! With Desolated we also played thrice in Spain (even in a pool party in the house of a friend (go check on YT Desolated – Private Pool Party, you’ll see our younger selves dancing hahaha so cute). After we played at OneLifeOneCrew Fest with Climate of Fear (the new band of Paul)and shared the stage there, we talked about the idea of having his vocals on the album. He put great effort in it, and you’ll see the result really soon, he has done an amazing job! For the future, the day we’ll release the new album, we will play Resurrection Fest, playing mainstage the same day as Slipknot, this is probably gonna be one of the best days of our lifes! And we are planning to tour Europe in October with the help of Marco of MadTourBooking (hit him up, it’s gonna be awesome!).
