Eigentlich hatte ich Baroness<\/strong> als Album-Band (nicht als Live-Act!) bereits abgeschrieben: \u201cYellow & Green\u201d war mir streckenweise zu poppig, klang flach, \u201cPurple\u201d klang furchtbar, \u201cGold & Grey\u201d klang nicht viel besser und litt an mitunter verwirrendem (vielleicht auch verwirrtem) Songwriting. Und nun? Nun liefert das Quartett aus Savannah im US-Bundesstaat Georgia sein bestes Album seit \u201cRed\u201d und \u201cBlue\u201d ab.<\/p>\n

Das f\u00e4ngt damit an, dass \u201cStone<\/strong>\u201d kein bisschen stumpf klingt, sondern rasiermesserscharf, der Sound atmet f\u00f6rmlich. Und das geht damit weiter, dass die Band \u2013 wie immer \u2013 ungew\u00f6hnliche Songideen hat, sie diesmal aber in Songs gie\u00dft, an die man sich kein bisschen gew\u00f6hnen muss, die stattdessen schon beim Erstkontakt z\u00fcnden. So muss das sein!<\/p>\n

Nat\u00fcrlich f\u00fchrt \u201cStone<\/strong>\u201d nicht zur\u00fcck zur H\u00e4rte, zur Heaviness, zum gutturalen Gesang der ersten beiden Alben. Aber das muss es auch gar nicht. Die Band musste nach Jahren des Irrlichterns einfach zur\u00fcck in die Spur finden. Und das hat sie mit diesem riffm\u00e4\u00dfig raffinierten, kompositorisch reifen und wohl klingenden Werk geschafft.<\/p>\n
