Spiritus Mortis, gegr\u00fcndet 1987, gelten als erste finnische Doom-Metal-Band. Noch langsamer als das Tempo ihrer Songs ist jedoch das Tempo ihrer Ver\u00f6ffentlichungen: “The Great Seal” ist gerade mal ihr f\u00fcnfter Longplayer. Doch langsam trifft auf die darauf enthaltene Musik auch nur bedingt zu. Tats\u00e4chlich geht es deutlich flotter als bisher zu Werke.<\/p>\n

Das hat auch einen ganz bestimmten Grund: Mit dem wie geplant durchgef\u00fchrten Ausstieg von Ex Reverend-Bizarre-Vorsteher Sami Hynninen, besser bekannt als Albert Witchfinder, geht ein stilistischer Wechsel einher. Und das ist auch absolut angemessen, da Hynninens Sangesorgan schlicht zu pr\u00e4gend war, um einfach so weiter zu machen.<\/p>\n

Was geblieben ist, sind die messerscharfen Riffs der Herren Jussi Maijala und Kari Lavila. Was hinzugekommen ist, sind neben den h\u00f6heren Tempos und dem organischeren Drumsound die \u2014 ich sag’s mal so \u2014 candlemassigen Vocals von Kimmo Per\u00e4m\u00e4ki \u2014 sprich: mit viel Vibrato und sehr kraftvoll im Vortrag.<\/p>\n

Geschenkt, dass Per\u00e4m\u00e4ki tonal routinem\u00e4\u00dfig nicht ins Schwarze trifft. Denn obwohl er Menschen mit musikalischem Geh\u00f6r damit wohl in den Wahnsinn treiben d\u00fcrfte, geh\u00f6rt es im Bereich Epic Doom doch gewisserma\u00dfen zum guten Ton, nicht “in tune” zu singen. Genrefreunde d\u00fcrften am Gesang also ihre helle Freude haben. Und an allem anderen, was Spiritus Mortis hier abliefern, genauso.<\/p>\n
