\n<\/em><\/strong>Wir vom Hellfire bem\u00fchen uns, (mehr oder weniger) kurz und pr\u00e4gnant im Rahmen von 5 Fragen zu agieren (manchmal kann eine Frage auch gedoppelt oder getrippelt sein); dem Musiker obliegt es, nach seinem Gutd\u00fcnken zu antworten: kurz und knapp bis hin zu ausschweifend und umfangreich.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Zur Feier des am 30.07.2021 erschienenen Albums \u201eArete\u201c, habe ich die Schweden von Netherbird f\u00fcr ein Quick 5 beiseite gezogen. Lest euch zudem gerne meine letzte Rezension zu \u201eArete\u201c durch, wenn ihr tiefer in das letzte Kapitel der Album-Trilogie abtauchen wollt. <\/strong>5 Fragen, 5 Antworten. Und Action: <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

HF: Bekannterma\u00dfen ist das erste, was beim Kauf eines neuen Albums in die Augen f\u00e4llt, das Artwork. Als Freund der Kunst muss ich fragen, was hat es mit diesem monumentalen Artwork auf sich?<\/strong><\/p>\n

NB:<\/strong> Das Artwork stammt von Nihil, einem franz\u00f6sischen K\u00fcnstler, der in Norwegen lebt und seit Jahren ein Freund der Band ist. Wir haben f\u00fcr die letzten Ver\u00f6ffentlichungen klassische Gem\u00e4lde verwendet, aber dieses Mal wollten wir etwas anderes. Als wir dieses St\u00fcck sahen, f\u00fchlte es sich einfach perfekt an f\u00fcr das Album und unsere Vision daf\u00fcr. Es ist ein sch\u00f6nes Kunstwerk an sich und es ist auch sehr offen f\u00fcr Interpretationen. W\u00e4hrend mehrerer Interviews habe ich verschiedene Vorschl\u00e4ge bekommen was das Bild darstellen k\u00f6nnte, daher tut es das was es soll: Es erzeugt Gedanken und verschiedene Leute sehen unterschiedliche Dinge. Ich wei\u00df was das Cover f\u00fcr mich bedeutet aber ich bevorzuge, dass jeder seine eigene einzigartige Bedeutung darin findet.<\/p>\n

HF: <\/strong>Was f\u00fcr eine Bedeutung steckt hinter dem Albumtitel “Arete” im Zusammenhang mit dem Kontext der Scheibe?<\/strong><\/p>\n

NB:<\/strong> \u201eArete\u201c ist das klassische griechische Ideal der Exzellenz, es steht daf\u00fcr das Beste zu erreichen was m\u00f6glich ist. Man kann sagen, dass das Album dieses Streben nach Exzellenz aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln untersucht. Wie beim Cover versuche ich auch meine Texte eher \u201eoffen\u201c zu halten, damit die H\u00f6rer ihre eigene Interpretation der Worte finden k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n

HF: <\/strong>Was war eure Inspirationsquelle f\u00fcr “Arete”?<\/strong><\/p>\n

NB:<\/strong> \u201eArete\u201c ist das dritte Album einer Trilogie, die mit \u201eThe Grander Voyage\u201c begann, einem Album, das sich mit der Reise besch\u00e4ftigt, die wir alle durch das Leben machen. Von unserem Geburtsort und dem einzigartigen Weg, den wir alle finden oder zumindest versuchen zu finden. Das zweite Album \u201eInto the Vast Uncharted\u201c konzentriert sich mehr auf das Universum, das wir alle in uns haben, unsere Gedanken und unsere treibenden Kr\u00e4fte. Und auf \u201eArete\u201c besch\u00e4ftigen wir uns mit dem eigentlichen Ziel, dem Zweck unseres Strebens im Leben. Die Inspiration war also schon lange vor der Pandemie da, aber sie gab uns Zeit viel schneller als geplant mit dem Schreiben und Aufnehmen des Albums zu beginnen. Aber das ist nur ein Beispiel f\u00fcr die Ungewissheit, die das Leben bietet.<\/p>\n

HF: <\/strong>Meiner Ansicht nach h\u00f6rt man die Energie auf “Arete” sp\u00fcrbar heraus. Wie war es trotz Covid-19 f\u00fcr euch m\u00f6glich solch ein stimmiges Album aufzunehmen?<\/strong><\/p>\n
NB:<\/strong> Ich muss sagen, es l\u00e4uft alles auf Bizmarks ph\u00e4nomenale F\u00e4higkeit hinaus heutzutage stimmige Songs zu schreiben. Er schrieb die Basis des Albums innerhalb weniger Wochen, nachdem uns klar wurde, dass wir aufgrund von Covid mit einer langen Periode von Einschr\u00e4nkungen konfrontiert waren. Wir haben einen gut funktionierenden Prozess, bei dem er den Kern der Songs schreibt, dann springen wir hin und her, bis wir die Konturen eines Albums fertig haben. Dann beginnen die anderen Jungs ihre Parts vorzubereiten und wir versuchen eine gute Track-Reihenfolge zu finden. Dieses Mal haben wir mit dem Produzenten Sverker Widgren in den Wing Studios zusammengearbeitet, den wir seit vielen Jahren kennen, und das hat die Aufnahme des Albums wirklich gut gemacht. Obwohl wir uns nicht einmal als komplette Band getroffen haben. \u201eArete\u201c ist das sechste Album das wir aufnehmen, also hilft nat\u00fcrlich auch all diese Erfahrung.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
HF: <\/strong>Wie sehen die n\u00e4chsten Zukunftspl\u00e4ne von Netherbird aus? <\/strong><\/p>\n
NB:<\/strong> Im Moment tun wir unser Bestes, um sicherzustellen, dass die Leute das Album h\u00f6ren. Wir sind nat\u00fcrlich bestrebt die Songs live zu performen, aber in Wahrheit wird es einige Zeit dauern bis dies m\u00f6glich ist. Zuerst m\u00fcssen wir dieses Pandemie-Chaos \u00fcberstehen und dann gibt es jede Menge verschobene Tourneen und Festivals, also hoffen wir realistisch gesehen, im Laufe des Jahres 2022 einige Shows zu bekommen und wir haben einige bereits gebucht. Aber wir werden sehen, denn das Leben neigt dazu einige \u00dcberraschungen zu bieten. Aber wir sind bereit, sofern es uns erlaubt wird, die Band wieder auf die B\u00fchne zu bringen.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the album \u201cArete\u201d, which was released on July 30th, 2021, I pulled the Swedes from Netherbird aside for a Quick 5. Also, feel free to read my last review of \u201cArete\u201d if you want to delve deeper into the final chapter of the album trilogy. But now. 5 questions, 5 answers. And action:<\/strong><\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
HF: As is well known, the first thing that catches your eye when buying a new album is the artwork. As a friend of art, I have to ask, what is this monumental artwork about?<\/strong><\/p>\n
NB:<\/strong> The artwork is made by Nihil, a French artist residing in Norway and who is a friend of the band since years back. We have used classical paintings for the last releases but felt we wanted something different this time. When we saw this piece it felt just perfect for the album and our vision for it. It is a beautiful art piece in itself and it is also very open to interpretation. During several interviews I have gotten several suggestion on what the image represents, so then it really does what it should: it provokes thoughts and different people see different things. I know what the cover art represents to me, but I prefer everyone to find their own unique meaning in it.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
HF: What is the meaning behind the album title “Arete” in connection with the context of the album?<\/strong><\/p>\n
NB:<\/strong> “Arete” is the classic Greek ideal of excellence, to aim to be the best you can be. The album can be said to explore this strive to excel from various viewpoints. Just as with the cover, I also try to keep my lyrics rather \u201copen\u201d so the listeners can find their own way of interpreting the words.<\/p>\n
HF: <\/strong>What was your source of inspiration for \u201cArete\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n
NB:<\/strong> \u201cArete\u201d is the third album in a trilogy that started with \u201cThe Grander Voyage\u201d which is an album which is dealing with the journey we all make through life, from the place where we are born and the unique path that we all find, or at least try to find. The second album \u201cInto the Vast Uncharted\u201d is more centered around the universe we all have inside us, our thoughts and our driving forces and on \u201cArete\u201d we deal with the very goal, the purpose, of our strive in life. So the inspiration was already there long before the pandemic, but it gave us time to start writing and recording the album much quicker than we had planned. But that is just an example of the level of uncertainty that life offers.<\/p>\n
HF: In my opinion you can hear the intense energy on “Arete”. How was it possible for you to record such a coherent album despite of Covid-19?<\/strong><\/p>\n
NB:<\/strong> I must say it all boils down to Bizmark\u2019s phenomenal ability to write coherent songs these days. He wrote the base of the album in a matter of weeks after we realized that we were facing a long period of restrictions due to Covid. We have a well-functioning process where he writes the core of the songs, then we bounce them back and forth until we have the outline of an album ready. Then the rest of the guys start preparing their parts and we try to figure out a good track order. This time we worked with producer Sverker Widgren in Wing Studios whom we know since many years, and that made the recording of the album work really well despite us not even meeting as a full band. \u201cArete\u201d is the sixth album we record so of course all that experience also helps.<\/p>\n

HF: What are Netherbird\u2019s next plans for the future?<\/strong><\/p>\n
NB:<\/strong> Right now we do our best to ensure that people get to hear the album. We are of course eager to perform the songs live, but in truth it will take time before that is possible. First we must get through this pandemic chaos and then there are tons of postponed tours and festivals so realistically speaking we hope to get some shows during 2022 and we have a few already book. But we shall see, life tends to offer surprises down the road. But we are ready when things allows us to put the band back on a stage.<\/p>\n
