English see below<\/em><\/p>\n Mit dem Hellfire Quick5 Interview versuchen wir dem Leser m\u00f6glichst interessante Infos aus den Musikern rauszukitzeln, ohne dass sie sich seitenlangen Fragen\/Antworten hingeben m\u00fcssen. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a9 J\u00f6rg Schnebele, JS Pics<\/p><\/div>\n Im letzten Jahr haben sich die Koblenzer Pyracanda wieder zusammengetan, um ein paar Gigs zu spielen und ihren Fans zu zeigen, dass wieder mit ihnen zu rechnen ist. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n HF: Dieter, Pyracanda erleben gerade ihren zweiten Fr\u00fchling. Am 08.02.2020 gabs ein Reunion Konzert im JUZ Andernach, und wenn Corona nicht gewesen w\u00e4re, h\u00e4ttet Ihr ungebremst durchstarten k\u00f6nnen. Dennoch habt Ihr 2020 mehr Konzerte spielen k\u00f6nnen, als die meisten anderen Bands. Dieter<\/em><\/strong>: Begonnen hat alles bereits vor ein paar Jahren, als unsere Alben ge-remastert auf Spotify, Deezer, Apple Musik, Amazon und all den ganzen modernen Zaubermedien rauskamen. <\/em><\/p>\n Das war mehr oder weniger nur so aus Spa\u00df, denn die Band gab es ja nicht mehr. Bis wir auf einmal registrierten, dass diese alten Scheiben sehr oft geklickt wurden. Das war schon das erste \u201eAha, was geht denn da ab?\u201c <\/em><\/p>\n Dann kam Ralph Hubert und fragte, ob er unser zweites Album \u201eThorns\u201c als Re-Release in der Ukraine und in Russland auf den Markt bringen darf. Wir haben zwar gesagt \u201eKlar, mach doch.\u201c, uns aber wieder gedacht \u201eAha, was geht denn da ab?\u201c. <\/em><\/p>\n Und dann war da Yadi, der flei\u00dfige Manager einer Merchandise Firma aus S\u00fcdostasien, der nachfragte, ob er das Cover der \u201eTwo Sides of a Coin\u201c auf Shirts und Longsleeves machen und verkaufen darf. \u201eJa klar, mach!\u201c \u201e\u2026 Aha \u2026?!\u201c <\/em><\/p>\n Und dann kam Matt von Divebomb Records USA und sagte, dass er gerne die \u201eTwo Sides of a Coin\u201c ge-remastert komplett neu auflegen wolle. Mit unver\u00f6ffentlichten Bonus Tracks, einem Interview im Booklet und alles richtig fett und so. Da sagte ich dann endlich zu den Jungs, inspiriert durch meine Gabe blitzschnell Dinge zu kombinieren (hahaha) \u201eLeute, ich wei\u00df nicht so genau, aber ich glaube da ist was im Busch.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n \u2026 die Scheibe ist bereits heute schon lange wieder ausverkauft. <\/em><\/p>\n Und dann haben 2019 Patrick und ich irgendwann bei einem Abendessen in Bendorf \u2013 das liegt am Rhein in der N\u00e4he von Koblenz \u2013 die Jungs gefragt \u201e2020 \u2013 Lust auf Pyracanda Shows?\u201c <\/em><\/p>\n Dann haben wir geprobt \u2026 Tja \u2026 und nochmal und noch einmal und \u2026 und dann war es auf einmal geil und wir haben gesagt \u201eOk \u2013 Reunion Show muss zu Hause sein und dann ab daf\u00fcr.\u201c <\/em><\/p>\n Und es war so viel geplant. So viel. Und wir spielten die Reunion Show und es f\u00fchle sich an wie fr\u00fcher uns wir freuten uns auf das, was da kommen soll und dann, ja dann kam Corona, das A-loch. Coitus Interrupts. Wir haben dann 2020 noch zwei Corona-Konzerte gespielt. Ich glaube nur dreihundert Leute, sitzend an Bierb\u00e4nken. <\/em><\/p>\n Klar, tolle B\u00fchnen, prima Festivals, geiles Wetter aber dann siehst du die Heavy Metal Fans, die ansonsten durch die Gegend fliegen, da unten auf ihrer Bierbank sitzen, die Beine und Arme zucken, die K\u00f6pfe gehen auf und ab aber jeder schaut dich mit schmerzverzerrtem Blick an, als wolle er sagen \u201eLass mich frei, lass mich austoben, das ist doch ein Heavy Metal Konzert. Es war halt nicht dasselbe. Nicht f\u00fcr uns und nicht f\u00fcr die Fans.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Dieter<\/em><\/strong>: Ja, Patrick Gr\u00fcn ist ein Pyracanda-Urgestein. Er kam mit siebzehn Jahren zu Pyracanda, als Elmar nach dem zweiten Album die Band verlies. Wir haben ein lustiges Schlagzeuger-Casting gemacht. <\/em><\/p>\n Viele verdammt gute und erfahrene Drummer dagehabt, und dann habe ich auf einen guten Tipp hin, Patrick Backstage bei seiner alten Band besucht. Er war gleich Feuer und Flamme, kam in unseren Proberaum und spielte allen den Arsch ab. Sensationell. Mit siebzehn. Leck mich quer, war der geil. <\/em><\/p>\n Zum zweiten Teil der Frage. Elmar und Sven. Bei Elmar war ja klar, dass er nicht mehr will. Er hat sich dann aber auf der Reunions Show f\u00fcr einen Titel hinter Patricks Drumset gesetzt und gezeigt, dass er das auch noch draufhat. Ist aber auch ein krass guter Typ. <\/em><\/p>\n Sven hat leider einfach keine Zeit. Er hat auch nach seiner Zeit bei Rage und Sub7even immer noch so viel Musik um die Ohren. Das geht einfach nicht. Daraufhin hat Patrick einfach Denis, einen seiner Caliban-Kollegen mitgebracht. Was f\u00fcr ein fantastischer Musiker und was f\u00fcr ein geiler Typ. Denis ist aus der Band heute nicht mehr wegzudenken. Das hat gleich alles gepasst. <\/em><\/p>\n HF: Blickt man auf Eure Anfangszeit, dann k\u00f6nnt Ihr vielen jungen Fans bestimmt ne Menge Anekdoten erz\u00e4hlen. Alleine die Zusammenarbeit mit Charly Rinne von Eurem ersten Label NNR \u2013 No Remorse Records und dann die Ver\u00f6ffentlichung des 2. Albums \u201eThorns\u201c bei Ralph Huberts Aaarrg Records\/Major Records m\u00fcsste die eine oder andere wissenswerte Story hervorbringen. Erz\u00e4hl mal, was damals so abgelaufen ist.<\/strong><\/p>\n Dieter<\/em><\/strong>: Alles? Nein ich erz\u00e4hle bestimmt nicht alles (hahaha). Aber es war schon eine tolle Zeit. Wir waren ja jung und haben halt wegen diesem Demo unterschiedlichste Plattenvertragsangebote bekommen. Das war schon verr\u00fcckt. Wir waren ja ganz normale Jungs und wir merkten auf einmal, dass all diese Leute bereit waren, in uns und unsere Musik Geld zu stecken. In uns. Das war schon ganz sch\u00f6n aufregend f\u00fcr uns. <\/em><\/p>\n Ja klar, und dann war da Charly Rinne. Der Mann, der Blind Guardian macht und Grinder. Wir wurden in ein tolles Studio geschickt und es wurde alles bezahlt. Das hat schon Eindruck auf uns gemacht.<\/em><\/p>\n Und ja, Ralph Hubert mit Aaarrg Records\/Major Records. Das war auch so eine Nummer. Das war ja nicht irgendjemand. Das war der Bassmann und Mastermind von Mekong Delta. Logisch ist so etwas f\u00fcr junge Leute total aufregend. <\/p>\n HF: Auf Eurem Deb\u00fct \u201eTwo Sides Of A Coin\u201d habt Ihr noch durch eine andere Sache, als Eure Musik auf Euch aufmerksam gemacht: Im Booklet war zu lesen: \u201ePyracanda uses Condoms, because they don\u2019t want tob e infected\u201c. Damals ging das Ger\u00fccht um, Ihr h\u00e4ttet sogar einen Deal mit \u201eBlausiegel\u201c (f\u00fcr alle, die es verpasst haben: Blausiegel ist ein Kondom(hersteller) JS)gehabt. Wahrheit oder Ente? Und weiter gefragt, wer ist auf die Idee gekommen, dass mit zu promoten? 1990 war das alles andere als normal.<\/strong><\/p>\n Dieter<\/em><\/strong>: Ja, wir hatten wirklich einen Vertrag mit Blausiegel. Das stimmt. Der Grund daf\u00fcr waren aber weniger der junge Trieb des Testosterons, sondern einfach die Tatsache, dass Aids in dieser Zeit gerade richtig gro\u00df und gef\u00e4hrlich war und wir deshalb den Titel \u201eDon’t Get Infected\u201c geschrieben haben. Blausiegel fanden das super und haben uns mit Kondomen eingedeckt. Meist haben wir diese aber von der B\u00fchne in die Fans geworfen. Wie gesagt, es war eine wirklich gef\u00e4hrliche Sache damals. Das Album \u201eTwo sides of a Coin\u201c stand dann lange in einer Vitrine ausgestellt im Headquarter von Blausiegel. Sehr lustig.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n HF: Allein durch Facebook erf\u00e4hrt jeder, der sich f\u00fcr die Band interessiert, dass bei Euch zurzeit eine Menge abgeht. Die alten Alben werden neu ver\u00f6ffentlicht und auch als Vinyl angeboten. Merchandise scheint auch gut zu laufen\u2026.. Die durch Corona ausgefallenen Festivals werden gr\u00f6\u00dftenteils dann hoffentlich 2022 nachgeholt. Aktuell sprechen wir sogar mit Veranstaltern sogar schon \u00fcber Shows in Spanien und Japan. Es muss ja irgendwann auch wieder weiter gehen. <\/em><\/p>\n Bez\u00fcglich einer neuen Platte. Ja, wir planen das. Aber Corona hat uns diesbez\u00fcglich echt ausgebremst. Wir sind noch vom alten Schlag. Bei uns entstehen die St\u00fccke noch mit der Band im Proberaum. Einer kommt an mit einer Idee und wir komponieren dann gemeinsam so lange, bis der Titel steht. Das kann l\u00e4nger dauern oder ganz schnell gehen. Wei\u00df man nie. <\/em><\/p>\n Ich dudelte irgendwann auf meinem Bass w\u00e4hrend der Probe rum und Dennis sagte \u201eMach mal weiter, das ist geil. Und am Ende der Probe stand auf einmal \u201eDragons Cult\u201c. Dennis ist eh unsere Riff-Maschine. Sensationell, was aus dem Kerl von seinem Gef\u00fchl in seine Finger geschickt auf das Griffbrett zaubert. <\/em><\/p>\n Doch leider durften wir wegen Corona nicht proben. Aber ja \u2013 wir arbeiten an neuer Musik und es wird bestimmt bald was Neues von Pyracanda auf die Ohren geben.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Hellfire\u2018s Quick 5 interviews try to give lot of info within narrow frame of five questions and five answers. Sometimes can happen, that one question consists of two or three. <\/p>\n Last year, Koblenz-based band Pyracanda got back together to play a few gigs and show their fans that they are once again a force to be reckoned with. <\/p>\n HF: Dieter, Pyracanda are experiencing their second spring. On 08.02.2020 there was a reunion concert at the JUZ Andernach, and if Corona hadn’t been there, you could have taken off unchecked. Nevertheless, you were able to play more concerts in 2020 than most other bands. Dieter: <\/em><\/strong>It all started a few years ago when our albums came out remastered on Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, Amazon and all the modern magic media. Then Ralph Hubert came and asked if he could release our second album “Thorns” as a re-release in Ukraine and Russia. We said “Sure, go ahead”, but again thought “Aha, what’s going on?”.<\/em><\/p>\n And then there was Yadi, the hardworking manager of a merchandise company from Southeast Asia, who asked if he could make and sell the cover of “Two Sides of a Coin” on shirts and longsleeves. “Yeah sure, go for it!” “… Aha …?!”<\/em><\/p>\n And then Matt from Divebomb Records USA came and said that he would like to re-release the “Two Sides of a Coin” completely remastered. With unreleased bonus tracks, an interview in the booklet and everything really fat and stuff. That’s when I finally said to the guys, inspired by my gift for combining things at lightning speed (hahaha) “Guys, I don’t really know, but I think there’s something up.” Yeah, and even though Pyracanda didn’t exist anymore at that point, we were still buddies. We all met regularly in our hometown Koblenz, found one, two, eleven, twelve beers and laughed a lot. All together. Sven, Hansi, Dennis, Elmar, Patrick and the Wittbecker.<\/em><\/p>\n And then in 2019 Patrick and I asked the guys at a dinner in Bendorf – which is on the Rhine near Koblenz – “2020 – want to do Pyracanda shows?” And there was so much planned. So much. And we played the reunion show and it felt like the old days and we were looking forward to what was to come and then, yeah then Corona came, the a-hole. Coitus Interrupts. We then played two more Corona concerts in 2020. I think only three hundred people, sitting at beer benches.<\/em><\/p>\n Sure, great stages, great festivals, great weather, but then you see the heavy metal fans, who otherwise fly around, sitting down there on their beer benches, legs and arms twitching, heads going up and down, but everyone looking at you with a pain-distorted look, as if to say “Let me go free, let me let off steam, this is a heavy metal concert. It just wasn’t the same. Not for us and not for the fans.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n HF: In connection with the question about the reunion…. You guys have been very fortunate to have three members from the original lineup. And I think Patrick (Gr\u00fcn, dr) was also on board very early on. How did the current line-up come about, and what happened to Sven Fischer (g) and Elmar Gehenzig (dr)?<\/strong><\/p>\n Dieter<\/em><\/strong>: Yes, Patrick Gr\u00fcn is a Pyracanda veteran. He joined Pyracanda when he was seventeen, when Elmar left the band after the second album. We did a funny drummer casting. <\/p>\n HF: Looking back to your early days, you can tell a lot of anecdotes to many young fans. Alone the collaboration with Charly Rinne from your first label NNR – No Remorse Records and then the release of the 2nd album “Thorns” on Ralph Hubert’s Aaarrg Records\/Major Records should bring up one or two stories worth knowing. Tell us what happened back then.<\/strong><\/p>\n Dieter<\/em><\/strong>: Everything? No, I’m certainly not telling you everything (hahaha). But it was a great time. We were young and just because of this demo we got different record contract offers. That was already crazy. We were just normal guys and we suddenly realized that all these people were willing to put money into us and our music. Into us. That was pretty exciting for us. <\/p>\n HF: On your debut “Two Sides Of A Coin” you attracted attention by another thing than your music: In the booklet you could read: “Pyracanda uses Condoms, because they don’t want to be infected”. At that time there was a rumor that you even had a deal with “Blausiegel” (for all those who missed it: Blausiegel is a condom (manufacturer) JS). Truth or duck? And further asked, who came up with the idea to co-promote that? In 1990, this was anything but normal.<\/strong><\/p>\n Dieter<\/em><\/strong>: Yes, we really had a contract with Blausiegel. That’s right. But the reason for that was not so much the young drive of testosterone, but simply the fact that AIDS was just really big and dangerous at that time and that’s why we wrote the title “Don’t Get Infected”. Blausiegel thought that was great and stocked us up with condoms. But mostly we threw them off the stage into the fans. As I said, it was a really dangerous thing back then. The album “Two sides of a Coin” was displayed in a showcase at the Blausiegel headquarters for a long time. Very funny. <\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n HF: Through Facebook alone, everyone who is interested in the band learns that you have a lot going on at the moment. The old albums are being re-released and also offered as vinyl. Merchandise also seems to be doing well….. Dieter<\/em><\/strong>: First the answer regarding the live concerts. Yes, it’s slowly starting again. According to current planning we will play in July at the HOA, the Headbangers Open Air in Brande and in November we will headline the Rager Elite Festival in Hamm. <\/em>Regarding a new record. Yes, we are planning that. But Corona has really slowed us down in that regard. We are still from the old school. We still write the songs with the band in the rehearsal room. One of us comes up with an idea and we compose together until the title is written. That can take longer or go really fast. Konkret gefragt: was ist mit einer neuen Platte respektive neuen Songs? Dieter<\/em><\/strong>: Zuerst die Antwort bez\u00fcglich der Live Konzerte. Ja, es geht langsam wieder los. Wir werden nach derzeitiger Planung im Juli auf dem HOA, dem Headbangers Open Air in Brande spielen und im November das Rager Elite Festival in Hamm headlinen. <\/em><\/p>\n

\n<\/em>That was more or less just for fun, because the band didn’t exist anymore. Until we suddenly registered that these old discs were clicked very often. That was already the first “Aha, what’s going on there?”<\/em><\/p>\n
\n<\/em>… the disc is already long sold out again today.<\/em><\/p>\n
\n<\/em>Then we rehearsed … Well … and again and again and … and then all of a sudden it was awesome and we said “Ok – reunion show has to be at home and then off for it.”<\/em><\/p>\n
\n<\/em>A lot of damn good and experienced drummers were there, and then on a good tip, I visited Patrick backstage at his old band. He was on fire right away, came to our rehearsal room and played his ass off. Sensational. With seventeen. Fuck me, he was cool.
\n<\/em>To the second part of the question. Elmar and Sven. With Elmar it was clear that he didn’t want to do it anymore. But he sat behind Patrick’s drumset for one song at the Reunions show and showed that he can still do it. But he’s also a really good guy.
\n<\/em>Unfortunately Sven just doesn’t have the time. He still has so much music around his ears after his time with Rage and Sub7even. That’s just not possible. So Patrick simply brought Denis, one of his Caliban colleagues. What a fantastic musician and what an awesome guy. Denis is an integral part of the band today. Everything fit right away.<\/em><\/p>\n
\n<\/em>Yeah sure, and then there was Charly Rinne. The guy who does Blind Guardian and Grinder. We were sent to a great studio and it was all paid for. That already made an impression on us.
\n<\/em>And yeah, Ralph Hubert with Aaarrg Records\/Major Records. That was another one of those things. That wasn’t just anybody. That was the bass man and mastermind of Mekong Delta. Of course, something like that is totally exciting for young people<\/em>. <\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>If you’re not a stick-in-the-mud, you can guess that there’s obviously more to come in the near future. Concretely asked: what about a new record respectively new songs? How does your live planning look like, especially now that we are slowly but surely moving towards herd immunity and actually in the second half of the year concerts are planned again concretely?<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n<\/em>The festivals that were cancelled due to Corona will hopefully be made up for in 2022. Currently we are even talking to promoters about shows in Spain and Japan. It has to go on again sometime.<\/em><\/p>\n
\n<\/em>At one point I was playing my bass during rehearsal and Dennis said, “Go ahead, that’s cool. And at the end of the rehearsal it was suddenly “Dragons Cult”. Dennis is our riff machine anyway. Sensational, what the guy conjures from his feeling in his fingers skillfully on the fretboard.
\n<\/em>But unfortunately we were not allowed to rehearse because of Corona. But yes – we are working on new music and there will definitely be something new from Pyracanda to your ears soon.<\/em><\/p>\n
