English version of the interview

Hellfire Quick 5 interviews try to gather a lot of interesting information within the narrow frame of five questions and five answers. Sometimes a query may be divided into two or three partial questions. It’s up to the musicians to answer short, longer or excessively.

Today we talk to Dirk Scharsich from Victorius. „Dinosaur Warfare – Legend Of The Power Saurus“, their new EP, will be out on January 26, 2018.

HF: Congratulations on your new EP. Your latest album “Heart Of The Phoenix” just turned one year old. Did you plan on releasing an EP after such a short time from the beginning or was that decided on short notice?

Dirk: Both of that. After finishing HotP, we knew at once that the next release shouldn’t take too long. And in the spring of 2017 we came up with the impromptu idea of releasing an EP.

HF: While writing my review, I came up with various theories about your reasons for choosing dinosaurs and aliens. They range from a bandmember being a huge fan of dinosaurs to a weekend full of alcohol and binge-watching old comic series from the 80s and 90s. Or did you just want to carry every power metal stereotype to extremes?

Dirk: Carrying stereotypes to extremes is basically our goal with every CD we release! 😀 I think we came up with dinosaurs while kidding around together. Strictly speaking, we don’t take ourselves too seriously concerning our music and our lyrics. And this time we just thought “Why not? Let’s just outdo ourselves”. We enjoy very much what we are doing. And the next album is most likely going to take it to a new level. 😀

HF: Again and again, I am surprised how many metal bands from Germany are popular in foreign countries, especially in Middle and South America. Victorius does have a fan group in Mexico for example. In your opinion, what are the reasons for this interest in metal “Made in Germany” and how did you become known outside of Europe?

Dirk: To be honest, I can’t offer an explanation for that. I suppose some people discovered our band and liked our music so much that they founded a fan club. Nowadays, every artist has the chance to “gain fame” through the internet. I don’t know why so many people from South America or Japan love german metal so much, I suppose you would have to ask them directly. I know that I love Italian Power Metal, ’cause it is excessively cheesy and their funny accent is just great. I like that a lot.

HF: You’ve been on tour with bands like Grave Digger, Freedom Call and Van Canto. What kind of experiences did you gain touring with such bands? Some special or funny events maybe?

Dirk: Never ever dare stepping on stage when the main act is doing the soundcheck! Apart from that, you realise that the bands you admire are just normal people like you and me. Most of them are very nice and friendly. And it always gets funny when our bass player Andy gets drunk. Considering that he is drunk all the time, we always have a great time. 😀

HF: What are your plans for 2018? Will there be a (small) tour for the EP or will you mostly play festivals? And are there any chances for a sequel to the story of the Holy Dinoforce?

Dirk: A couple of shows and festivals are already confirmed for 2018. There will be more for sure. We are currently working on a tour, but there isn’t anything definite yet. I don’t think there will be an album about lasershooting dinosaurs anytime soon, but my head is already full of crazy and wacky ideas for a different concept album. 😉

HF: Thank you very much for your time. We wish you all the best for the future and lots of success with your new EP.
